Getting Started With Us

You’ve heard about Pilates. Perhaps you have been recommended to do it by a healthcare professional, or maybe a friend has suggested giving it a try. Great!

You’ve obviously started doing your research as you have found this blog. That’s a great first step. The next step is to get you on board, see how you move and get you ready to join classes.

Mat, Apparatus or Both?

Our mat and apparatus studios

This is probably the first question - and you might not have an answer yet. That’s OK. We have options to help.

Mat Classes:

Group mat classes are our most budget friendly option. The classical pilates mat work is a system in itself, intended to work the full body. In a mat session, it is just you and your body doing the work. We sometimes use small equipment such as bands, balls and power circles to give you extra support or challenge you a little.

If you know you want to do mat classes, getting started is easy. No induction is required. Simply browse our timetable, select a class and book a spot. If you are new to Classical Pilates we recommend booking either a Foundations or All Levels class as these are suitable for beginners and will make sure you learn the foundations first. Regardless of how strong, active or capable you are the foundations are so important in Pilates - and they will definitely get you working hard!

Apparatus Classes:

In the apparatus studio you will work in apparatus such as the Reformer for your workout, as well as other apparatus within the Pilates studio system such as the Wunda Chair, Tower or Barrels to help you focus in on key areas. The apparatus gives you support and feedback to move your body in ways you can’t quite replicate elsewhere.

To join our apparatus classes you will need to complete an apparatus studio induction first, comprising of at least 2x 1:1 sessions. This is so you can learn to use the studio apparatus safely and we can get you working effectively, according to your own body’s needs. Getting set up with an induction is easy and you can follow our step by step guide below.

Still not sure? That’s OK. We have a couple of options to help you decide.

  • Discovery Session: We offer a discovery session in which we will show you the studios, tell you a little bit about the Pilates method, mat classes and the apparatus studio, and take you through some basic exercises on the mat and apparatus. £55

  • Induction Package: Our Induction Package includes 2x 1:1 sessions, a 4 class pass for group apparatus, plus a free mat class pass thrown in too. This gives you the opportunity to discover both apparatus and mat work. £150
